Give this a try. In device manager, expand Universal Serial Bus.
For each entry, and root hubs, right click and scan for hardware changes.

Thanks,.had done all I could.in windows.
Apparantly When the unit crashed an battery was drained. The bios had been tripped into setting the usb channel to off. I found it in a last chance effort to fix it.
It is working now w 64 bit win 7 and 4 gig of ram.
