I have a Seagate Expansion 1TB HDD which I've had since the first year of university (about 4 years ago). It worked fine until I got a Powered USB Hub by Advent (a cheap one from Currys PC world).
Because I hadn't used the drive in nearly a year, there was an issue which I managed to solve until I got the hub.
Initially I could use the drive with or without the hub, but about a year ago the drive decided that it would only spin up and boot when plugged into the hub and not the laptop directly. I tried all four ports on the laptop but no luck.
I then tried plugging my phone into the usb ports to no avail. I then tried one more thing which was to disconnect the power supply from the hub while it was connected my laptop. I now think it's a Usb power issue with the laptop.
It hasn't been a problem until now, as I only used my laptop and the peripherals at home, but now that I've gone to do my masters, which I need the drive for, it has become a problem, as I don't want to have to keep unplugging everything and taking the hub with me.
I make music and am studying my masters in Electronic Music Production and need my hard drive as a result.
Does anybody have any idea as to what can be done to rectify this?
Cheers in advance,
Isaiah.
