USB Problem

Recently when trying to use a flash drive in my USB port, I was not able to use it. Although my PC (using Windows XP)recognized the device when I put it into the port, when I tried to open it, I got a message to format the drive. Even if I say yes to format it, it says it cannot be formatted. I have reloaded the drivers and still the same problem. Anyone have any idea how to remedy this?

some drives are not as robust as the others. i have bunch of them an occasionally run into same problem. solution is to format it but if windows format does not do the trick you need to look for low level format programs (normally from manufacturer of the drive although there are alternatives).
