Usb repeater cable

Having used a 10m usb extention active repeater cable that works with a wifi adapter to get a signal from rooftop.
What i would like to know is if a powered hub at the far end would allow extra network shared hdd storage devices to be connected? hence one usb to connect to laptop/pc and all devices out of harms way leaving just one lead to connect after booting up?

Does your laptop has only one USB port? I see no logic in throwing your hard drive far on the rootop, but if that's your only choice, you can go with it. How you are going to power the hub at the roof?

When i say roof, i mean the topmost floor of 3 story villa where the wifi signal is best.laptop/server is in the lounge running XBMC on the main TV. Now utilizing my extension and one powered hub i can group together all my 2 wd elements(powered) and portable hdds with wifi adapter therefore hiding away a spiders web of wires.
Only connection being one usb into laptop where i have wireless mouse connected. 🙂
