A few years ago I moved across the country. In the move some of my hard drives "stopped working"
My dog of 15 years, recently passed away and I would love to get the photos off these old drives.
I recently purchased and sent back an adapter that did not find the IDE drive, it found a SATA drive that I knew works.
I heard the motor in the drive, but the device was not even found by the adapter. I looked online and many other people had the same problem with that specific adapter.
I have a working computer with windows 7 and one with 10.
The drives were used in windows xp (64 bit ??) And they also worked in the computer with 7, before I moved.
Can somebody recommend an adapter or some way to get the data off these old drives, please.
The drives are WD,400 800 and a 1200. The sata is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.
I don't know if any of that matters, but it's very confusing to me what to get, sata 1 or 2? Is that the plug or the drive? I get the usb 1 and 2 . Are there different IDE plugs or will one work in another?
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Does the adapter use a separate power input supplied from an AC/DC adapter? Pretty much all 3.5" drives will require more than just a USB powered adapter port to power up the drive all the way...
Yes, it did have a seperate power supply with it. As I mentioned, I could hear the drive spin up when I turned on the power to the adapter. But the software (not windows or the driver that came with it) found any device.
