USB SOUND CARD

Hi friends
because onboard sound utilizes cpu while gaming,,,therefore i decided to buy a sound card,, but after installing my gpu and a physx card i can't use any pci,,,
so please tell me a usb sound card can provide me what i want ?
means a usb sound card will perform as same as a pci sound card does ??? ( i m not a hungry of best sound quality,,, just want normal quality and performance )

my only intention is to keep my cpu away from audio processing like an onboard sound card does

Community: Does onboard sound really chew up CPU cycles that a separate sound card would not? Is USB too narrow a pipe for sound?
