Question USB stick turns off devices

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but here's what happened.​

So I took an old charging cable and cut off the wire to see what happens if i plug it into my pc expecting nothing, but to my surprise, the pc suddenly turned off, so I tried connecting it to my tv, receiver, router, and monitor, and all of them turned off the same way, all the devices still work but I wanna know why this is happening and is it safe to continue doing that?​

You are probably grounding the 5v pin where you cut it.
Your components are shutting down to protect themselves from the short. No, it's not safe to keep doing.
