I'm trying to use my USB thumb drives and portable external hard drive on my desktop but none of them are showing up in windows explorer or in disk manager, however they do show up in the device manager under 'other devices'

Everything I have tried still hasn't fixed my problem, they all work perfectly fine in my surface tablet and on the desktops in uni, they were working around a week ago on my desktop as well but have suddenly stopped working.

On device manager whenever I've looked at properties I get the error code 28 show up for driver issues but if I try to update them windows cant find them. Please help I have an assignment due in soon and can't keep using onedrive to transfer all my work around after a day at uni

I had this same problem that I just noticed yesterday. I looked all over the internet trying to find a solution. One thing that nobody ever mentioned but I had a feeling about was the updates that my computer had been doing the previous few days. I looked back and figured out about the last time I knew I had used my hard drive and it had worked. So I went to the control panel, then programs, then view installed updates. From there you can see all of your installed updates, I had like twenty of them from since the last time I knew my hard drive worked. I uninstalled all of them, it took some time but it worked. From there you can see all of your installed updates, I had like twenty of them from since the last time I knew my hard drive worked. I uninstalled all of them, it took some time but it worked. Each one says that it needs to reboot the computer to take affect but you can uninstall all of them and then restart your computer. After I restarted it and all the unupdating took into affect, I plugged in my hard drive and it worked! Then I immediately swiped down the right and choose change my computer settings. Under update and recovery there is an option for when/if to install updates and I changed it so that it only lets me know about them rather than blindly installing them.

I've had several computer problems that have been solved but simply uninstalling updates, probably where the feeling in my guy came from. They always seem to come with bugs. I hope this helps you as well, if not, best of luck.

Thank you so much!!! That worked perfectly, I think the problem was that when windows tried to configure updates on start up it took too long and I reset my computer breaking the install of them.

Did exactly what you said and fixed everything, you have no idea how thankful for you help I am :)
