USB suddenly not readable

Hello,
I have a Western Digital external USB that is suddenly unreadable on my MACS. How can I retrieve the important information from it?

It happens one time to me on a Sony 8gb stick... i never been able to get it to work anymore so unless you want to pay a company to dismount the drive and read the actual chip in there (costly solution), just trash it and buy a new one...

PS: that's why you have to do backup of everything that is important...

If its a standard laptop or deshtop drive inside it then there are various data recovery programs you can use to retrieve the data as long as the drive is not physically damaged.

How costly could it be. The information is very valuable to me.
