Hi everyone,

I have an external audio interface (USB 2) that does not reconnect properly after a PC reboot. This is a known issue with the device, which las long ago been discontinued and unsupported.

The solution is to unplug the device and plug it back in, and it then operates fine while the PC remains on.

Looking for a basic USB switch that I can simply switch off and back on again. Any suggestions ?

The cheap inline switches on eBay state in the fine print that they are for power only, with no other data lines connected, so that's not going to work.

I have this, which DOES work for data and power.

Each switch controls 1 bank of 6 or 7.

Thanks so much. I recognize your handle from some of my other posts, and you're always very helpful.

The 13-port product is far too large for the space I need to fit this into, and quite unnecessary as I don't need extra ports, just switched data/power throughput. And the small 4-port hub does not support charging, so probably isn't sending power out. The peripheral I'm using is USB powered only, with no ability to use an external power supply.

Maybe I should consider building my own switch. My electronics skills are very rusty, and I haven't picked up an iron in over 25 years, but I am planning on wiring my own studio cables, so I might look into DIY if there's no other option. But if I can find an appropriate product for <$20, that would ideal

Standard pinout diagram of USB-B shows only four lines (voltage, -data, +data, ground), so I may drop in to a local component supplier to see what type of switch they recommend. Can't tell you the entire requirements of the device, as watts & volts aren't specified in the manual - the document only tells me that it's spec'd at 500mA consumption (max.) If I go down the DIY path, wiring in a power source is adding a lot of extra complexity for my limited skills.
