I am looking for a usb 3.0 switcher. similar to an HDMI switcher.
the reason for this is my Buick infotainment center. large capacity thumb drives (or hdds) will cause the system to become unresonsive and frequently show an error "no device connected" when first starting on the car.
With a switcher i can use multiple smaller thumb drives and still have my music available at my fingertips (without having to fumble through the center console while driving 75mph.
so far i have been unable to find such a device. i've found hubs with on/off buttons for each specific device connected. the device i am looking for would have a button for each device and when pressed automatically disconnect the previous device, ensuring only 1 port is active at a time.

I like your theory but something tells me that if you are able to find one, the vehicle likely won't support it. I say this because most of those software packages are limited in what they can understand and if you switch on the fly like that you're likely to wind up with more no device detected issues or it cause something else to go wrong.

i'm willing to gamble $20-$30... the improved functionality is worth the gamble. even if your right that changing thumbdrives too fast like this might cause other (non permanent) issues.

This is of course designed to have them both on at the same time which could also cause your problems and it will not power some devices
I have that exact one in my car, for slightly different use case.

2 of the ports power 2 different dashcam systems.
The other 2 pwoer USB ports, for music or charging a phone.

But from the OPs requirements, it does NOT power off 1 port when you select a different one..
You have to do that manually.

yes, i saw this one. When i said above that, "I've found hubs with on/off buttons for each specific device connected" is was specificlly this that i was referring to.
in fact i've considered purchasing it, even knowing that i would have to turn one off to start another.
