USB to IDE bridge won't work

I have an A-Byte EHD which is showing up on my devices window as a USB to IDE Bridge...when I right click on this icon it only shows a "properties" window........when I left click on my "computer" the EHD is not there.....this device worked on my friend's pc recently. The usb connector has 1 connector at one end & 2 at the other end with one being a smaller & shorter cord. I have the I connector end plugged into the EHD & only the longer connector plugged into the USB port on my Dell laptop. My pc is 4 yrs old....has lots of memory left & has Win7 OS....I am not savvy at this stuff & am not familiar with changing driver software etc.on my pc........when I left click on devices & printers it shows up...when I left or right click on it I just get the properties window. Sure hope you can help......this device was just given to me so that I could use some photos that are supposedly on it. I have no idea how old it is or anything about it. Thanks.....43Jordie.

Click start and search for diskmgmt.msc
It should show up in there. Right click the disk and click explore.

Hey there, Jordie.

I'd recommend that you follow @inzgary's advice and check if the HDD is recognized in Disk Management. If it is, then you just might need to assign it a new letter in order to be recognized in Windows Explorer. Here's how to do that:
