My family comp. is in the den with a 2wire router plugged in to the phoneline. An ethernet cable connects this to the main computer, and my Dad uses a 2Wire USB to phoneline adaptor for his laptop in the same room. The problem is, I just got a new computer and it will be upstairs in my room, with 1 phone jack. Should I order the same adaptor my dad has or is there another solution because it would be nice to not have to wait another week to get it in the mail.

Your 2wire router should be wireless so just get a wirless USB network adapter.

I would use the 2wire adapter it's plenty fast for your internet connection.

I have worked with the system in the past, SBC uses them for some of there installs, particurly with 2 story houses. Wireless conncetion some times have problem with penitrating floors.

The only problems I have seen with 2wire was, they were subject to being knocked out with power surges, the base. Connecting them to UPS units kill the PNA connection.
