USB To SATA Adapter

So i have this adapter form my 2.5 external hard drive and it works fine, but when i try to use the adapter on 3.5 hard drive "WD 2T Green" it dos'nt work, any one know why?

3.5" drives normally need more power than the usb port can provide.

i have a power supply around i'll try to use it with the adapter and see if it works
