universal serial bus controller/ is missing in device manager on my windows 8 computer!

the ports don't work at all for anything... flash drives, mouse, mic or anything.

The bios isn't the same anymore.... I have a UEFI type bios on windows 8.... a lot of different features and limitations.... I would like to know how to get the ports up and running... and make the USB controller show up in device manager so I can remove the drivers in usb c and restart so it will download them automatically but don't know how to get it back..... this problem is also apparent on my brothers windows 8 dell pc-laptop! help would be appreciated!

The newer laptops typically come with USB 3.0, I would recomend going to dell.com or somewhere similar and look at it's specs and what kind of usb 3.0 controller it uses. if you can get that far, you should be able to download it and install and it should work from there. Another thing that you can do is find the page of your laptop on dell(again) and go to the downloads page for it. the usb 3.0 controllers can also be found there
