Hi, I have a 2.5 inch IDE HDD that I use via a USB adapter, in this HDD there are various Linux distributions and various utilities that I'm going to use on an infected computer.

To prevent the HDD from getting infected I set it read-only via cmd.

I cannot set it read-only on a physical level (as in SD cards where a switch is present) because there is no switch.

Is there any chance that it will be infected even if I set it read-only?

I don't see Linux taking notice of a command that only works when Windows calls it but I'm also quite doubtful that Linux would be infected by more than one out of a hundred.

What is the nature of the infection? HijackThis is as valid as ever was when it comes to pointing out the suspects.
