Hi, first of all, sorry for my spelling, i'm from Argentina.

I bought an HD webcam powered by USB (no miniplug, cam+mic on the usb cable).

I want to know what is the better way to extend its life.

Is it safe to keep the cam always connected?
There will be a constant power light turned on, a lot of reboots and power-on-off, also a power loss could happen, non-safe removal, etc.

Or its better to keep it unplugged and plug it in only when i need it?
there will be a lot of turn on and turn off for the device
I use linux, and there is no "safe removal" option (i don't know if this is necessary for this device)

I just want to now what you think, and if anyone had some experiences on keepeing this devicess of "non-regular" use plugged or unplugged

Thanks in advance!

Solution
My webcams (USB) are left plugged in.

Plugging and unplugging is inconvenient overall all and yes likely to result in some eventual physical damage to plugs, cables, and ports.

Especially with the lower brand webcam makes and models.

The only accommodation I make is to cover the camera lens with dark cloth. Unlikely that someone will be able to turn the webcams on to spy but no harm in being cautious....

Just my thoughts on the matter. There may be other ideas and suggestions.

Also: Your spelling is fine.
