Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install the Windows 8 preview onto a home built computer.
I have mounted the .iso onto a flash drive using microsoft's program, but once I boot from the drive and start installation, I get a message saying to "remove the installation cd, restart the computer, and put it back in once windows has started normally," even though I don't have windows installed or have an installation cd.

Can anyone help?

That means you need to restart your computer, boot into Windows and start the installation again using the .exe file within the bootable USB you created. But this won't work if, like you say, you have no OS currently installed. It would seem you selected the wrong option whilst trying to install Windows 8. To do a fresh install, boot from the USB but do not select "Custom Install". Just select "basic" or whatever the other option is. This will simply over right anything on the hard drive and, in your case, install Windows onto your computer. I believe the option you originally selected was to install Windows along side another operating system. I had to do this as I have Windows 8 running on a partition with Windows 7 on another.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reply if it doesn't work.

Its better to create another partition then install windows 8 on the new partition you created that's what I did I have windows8 windows7 and windows vista on different partitions so I can use which ever os I want to use.
