"USB_LAN" connector - what is this?

i have a Gigabyte MOBO, exact model not important. Most USB connectors are stamped "USB 1394", but one is stamped "USB_LAN". How does this differ from normal USB? My onboard ethernet NIC is not working (long story) and I'm curious, is there some LAN functionality that I already have?
the manual is silent about what USB_LAN actually does.
Thanks!

I think its for a Ethernet (RJ45) connector to USB. You can get these adaptors readily but I think they degrade the throughput speed to your computer. If its a matter of internet or no internet then get a Ethernet to USB.

Remember to "best solution" this if it helps. If you need more help, ask away!
