Usbhub.sys causing blue screen error

Hello, I recently bought a USB hub and it casues my desktop to blue screen when shutting down/sleep/hibernating. It's definitly the problem as I have disconnected the hub, and it shutsdown perfectly well. Reconnect thje hub and I get the blue screen again. It's driving me mad. Seven forums have no fixes and all I want to do is shut down properly. The hub works perfectly well, all ports have power and pass information quickly. The driver just doesn't seem to like it. I'd love to find a third party driver that could handle it instead of this Microsoft driver that keeps throwing it's toys out the pram.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the responses. It is not the hub itself; I went and bought a second USB hub (different make and model) and the same problem occurs. I can only therefore assume its a problem with the usbhub.sys. Is there anyway to delete the driver completely and reinstall from elsewhere? I'd rather not completely reinstall Windows. I haven't tried shutting down from safe mode but will do and post the result. I will also try it on my xp laptop

Same problem with Safe Mode activated. Blue screen on shutdown. Will try on laptop and post again.

Legendkiller.... What makes you say it's the motherboard? All other USB devices work perfectly well. I've had no issues until plugging these USB hubs in. All on board USB devices work perfectly well also. Please clarify your statement. Thanks

You need to delete the upper and lower filters for your USB driver (if there is one) for your USB hub. see the following Microsoft web page.

If your operating system is XP then run the fix it button, but if it is Vista or Windows 7 then you will need to click on the "let me fix it myself " link.

You should be very careful to delete the upper and lower filters ONLY for the problem device as deleting the wrong ones can permanently trash your operating system.

If this fails to fix the problem then you will have to reinstall the operating system. I doubt very much if there is any hardware problem.

Just because it works doesn't mean it's not the motherboard... I rather replace the motherboard than wait few years later when i finally found out the problem... If you successfully transfer 1GB or more onto a device than it's not the motherboard, try and test it out... It could also be a driver problem... Some driver problem causes BSOD which happens to GPUs mostly...

I to am having a similar problem. I bought a nice Cyber Power USB Hub but if there is anything plugged into it the pc will not boot. I had this hub on a xp machine for over a year with no problems. Cyber Power sent me a new one but it does the same thing.
