I have recently purchased and installed a new sapphire Radeon r7 260x graphics card which has significantly increased the speed of my computer with the single exception of minecraft. I have read that this is possibly due to minecraft using the integrated graphics system instead of the card. Is there anyway to switch minecraft to using the graphics card? Thanks in advance.

Solution
If you are connected to the dedicated card, chances are you are using it.

Minecraft may be cpu bound. This would mean the cpu is not able to keep up so the video card does not get enough work to keep it busy.

Using msi afterburner to check the graphics card is not being used any more when minecraft is open than when it is not and my CPU is not exceeding 50% so I believe that is unlikely.

Thanks for response however have just sorted since I had misread the gpu usage, reading the temperature instead, and it is using the gpu and it was a texture pack crashing it :)

You have to list your cpu and also know that if a game only uses 2 cores on a 4 core system it will in fact get stock at 50% and still be bottlenecked by the cpu.

Low gpu usage is exactly what happens when you have a cpu bottleneck.

Can you please list your full specs so we can help you better.

I have same problem with the the msi 280x. The problem is Radeon it doesn't work with java. My cpu is a i7 3770k no bottle kneck what so ever
