Use display port for monitor

Trying to get 120 hz on my monitor using dp it works with dvi but im may upgrade my monitor to a higher resolution so i need to make sure I can do it before i invest 1500

if you want to know if you can use DP on ur new mon check the specs from the manufacturer

I know my monitor can do 120 hz at 10800with a dp but it won't I can only 60 hz at 1080 dvi will work but I will need to use a dp if I get this new monitor so I would like to know that dp will work with my current one at least before I pay 1500 for the new one

Your monitor should be backwards compatible with DVI and HDMI. Most good ones are.

Right but do know why dp will not go to 120 on 1080 my monitor specs say it should be able to and I've tied different cables and cards. dvi won't work with the new monitor at that resolution it's close to 4k it's 3440x1440 only accepts hdmi and dp but hdmi will only run at 30hz so my only choice is dp but I don't want to buy it till I can get the dp working in my current monitor

If I understand you correctly you're worried about ultra-HD using DVI connection.

Display Port will support 3440x1440 at full 120hz, as far as I'm aware.

Yes that is my concern also the new monitor doesn't have a dvi port
