Use Existing HDD on MB Similar To One That Died

My Asus Z97-A USB 3 motherboard died last week. They no longer sell that so I purchased an Asus Z97-A USB 3.1. I want to transfer my existing HDD, running Windows 7 Home Premium, to the new MB and do not want to do a fresh OS install unless it is the last resort.

When going from an old system (with a PNY MB) to a new build last year (the Asus Z97-A) I was able to transfer the HDD by doing a "sysprep," on the HDD. This uninstalled all of the drivers and the process was simple, worked, and I didn't have to reinstall the OS to run it on the Z97-A.

Undoubtedly there will be conflicts between drivers from the two Asus boards. Any thoughts or advice on the transfer?

If they're both Z97 boards, it might go very smoothly. You won't know for sure until you try, but it would be good to have the new boards latest drivers on a flash drive before starting the process. You will probably need to reactivate your OS.

By picking an almost identical MB, I'm hoping it does because it doesn't look like much has changed with the board other than the USB upgrade. Good call on downloading the latest drivers to a flash drive! I remember having to reactive the OS last time but I have do have the key for that.
