Wait so you have a new 1TB HDD and your saying your old external died?
Turn off the computer, install new HDD (plugged with data cord and power cord) and it should be recognized. You can then format, it if is not formatted to NTFS. And then you can transfer the files from your old HDD to your new HDD.

No im saying i have 1tb hdd in my computer.And i want to upgrade to 64 bit.And i would have used my external to backup the files i want during thw wipe.But becuase the external drive died.I was wondering if i could hook up the new hdd (1tb) Up along with the the 1tb already in my computer.Move over the files.Take out the new one,then do the wipe.
