Use internal HDD to transfer files?

Hey guys! Im about to update from win 32 7 32 to win 7 64,but i have a good amount of files (videos mostly) to transfer when i do a clean wipe.But my external hdd just died on me.But i have a brand new 1 tb hdd in my closet.Could i put in the new hdd,transfer the files.Take it out then do the wipe?

Wait so you have a new 1TB HDD and your saying your old external died?

Turn off the computer, install new HDD (plugged with data cord and power cord) and it should be recognized. You can then format, it if is not formatted to NTFS. And then you can transfer the files from your old HDD to your new HDD.

No im saying i have 1tb hdd in my computer.And i want to upgrade to 64 bit.And i would have used my external to backup the files i want during thw wipe.But becuase the external drive died.I was wondering if i could hook up the new hdd (1tb) Up along with the the 1tb already in my computer.Move over the files.Take out the new one,then do the wipe.

Why not
1) Disconnect "old" HDD in computer, connect the new One
2) load windows on the New drive.
3) reconnect your Old HDD

Transfer files how ever pleases you.
You save yourself a lot of grief it you initially divide your HDD into a "C-Drive for OS + Programs and a "D-Drive" for ALL the files you generate - Besides the problem of having to wipe a WHOLE disk, it sure does simplify Back ups.

PS with My way You can probably daul boot to win7 64 Bit and win 7 32 Bit Untill you no longer want win 7 32 Bit.

The system will ALWAYS boot to disk that is set to priority 1 in bios. So you set Bios to boot to Win 7 64 Bit (new HDD). If you need to boot to win 7 32 Bit. Just hit the key during Post that brings up a Boot menu. and select your old HDD. Either way you will see both drives and the drive Booted to will be C-drive. On My gigabyte board it is F12, on My Asrock MB it is F11. NOT THIS does NOT effect Bios Boot priority.
