Is the L702X capable of being used as a speaker? By this I mean using a ps3 RCA cable>splitter>3.5mm extension>laptop and then having the audio play on the laptop speakers. If it works could I plug earbuds into my laptop and listen to that audio?

Solution

Well you could power speakers with a headphone amp but not the laptops speakers. Or just buy some cheap PC speakers with a headphone jack for traditional headphones but this isn't going to work with USB headphones. You might be able to engineer a workaround with the laptop but I suspect even if you did get it to work it will be a big pain in butt...
You could probably do it if your laptop has a microphone input port. Although buying an inexpensive headphone amp would be much less of a headache. I did a quick search on Amazon and there are units for <$20 that would accomplish what your attempting.

I wanted to be able to use speakers and the ability to use headphones with it. Does the headphone amp let me do both?

So if I am reading this right, your wanting to take your PS3 hook it to your PC, then listen to the PC through earbuds. Uhmmm, possible but will sounds like shit by the time your done doing all this, plainly put. You would be plugging into the MICrophone with the 3.5mm, then opening Voice Recorder or enable 'listen to mic' through Control Panel> Sound> Recording settings. But taking the nice PS3 sound dumping it across a 3.5mm connection then through Mic recorder to then a set of earbuds will just trash / limit the sound quality.

If your looking for a way to listen to the PS3 through headphones/buds, there is plenty of alternatives out there (Check GameStop or BestBuy for example).

I have a wireless gaming headset that plugs in with usb. Is it possible to use this for sound? I heard only the microphone works on headsets, not the audio so i'm not too sure.

Below is a 9$ solution for speakers + headphones, but like I said USB headphones for the PS3 audio is unlikely unless the PS3 works with them naively. Does the headset work with the PS3?

I think I'll just buy the speakers you listed. Sounds like less work. Thanks!

Happy to help. If you're going to go the PC speaker route I'd suggest spending a little more to get 2.1 set with a subwoofer so the sounds is a least a little better. Here's a set I bought not to long ago for a relatives $25.

Good luck and good gaming.
