ok so, as i understand it, it's possible to use your laptop screen as a desktop monitor in some way, just not using the HDMI cables as they are output only. I don't have a desktop monitor but i do have a TV i can use temperarily to view my desktop. My question being, is there any way to setup my laptop screen as my desktop monitor while using the TV and then unplug the tv and use just the laptop monitor from there. being able to have my desktop boot up and auto connect to the laptop is ideal but if i have to leave it on until i get a real monitor i will. i know there are things like team-viewer but i feel like that would be very bad. thanks in advance.

Solution
Yes you setup the teamviewer for unnattended access and (and insert a password) and then it will run as a windows service which enables you to run and log into teamviewer even if there is no user logged in.

ok, if i download and pair both on teamviewer, is it possible to have my desktop load teamviewer on boot so i wont have to connect a screen any time it updates or randomly shuts down?

Are you wanting to dual purpose use your laptop screen for your desktop or your laptop or are you wanting to take a screen from a bad laptop and use it for desktop? You can convert a laptop screen to a desktop monitor by removing it form the laptop and getting adapter/power supply, but at the cost of a converter, casing, and power supply you are most of the way to the cost of a monitor.

If you are wanting to play video from the desktop then no remote desktop applicaiton is going to perfrom the way you want.

what i want is to be able to use my desktop on my working laptops screen. im not trying to play video games or watch video because i can do all that on the laptop. but there are alot of times when i need my desktop plus the extra disk space is nice, or if i need to run something that i dont interact with i want to be able to move it to my desktop and start it so i free up my laptop for other things. it seems team viewer is my best option, but i need to know if i will be able to have it start when the desktop boots so the desktop can always be accessed and viewed. i can keep a password off of the desktop and have one for teamviewer. then only i can access it.

thank you. i got it running and if im not downloading anything it's surprisingly fast. thanks again guys.
