I'm getting a new high-performance PC and want to be more proactive with dust control. The PC case has to sit on a raised surface 3" off the floor with one side against a wall, which is not optimal for dust limitation or airflow but it has been perfectly adequate for the three gaming rigs I have operated in that space for the last twelve years or so.

PCs are dust-traps, however, so I was wondering if a small air purifier might be a good investment and, if so, is there an ideal placement relative to the PC case? Thank you!

Already done. I’m just wondering if an air purifier can give another layer of dust protection.
Well, it's elementary logic, anything that reduces number of hard particles in the environment air will also help anything else they can collect on. PCs tend to collect a lot of dust because they work same way as active air filters and cleaners. High electrical frequency acts as static electricity and ionizes air which attracts opposite charged particles and fans provide airflow which carries them.
