Use Old Stock Cooler for New CPU

Hello!
I've set up a build, all the parts have arrived except the OS, which will be here by the end of the day, and the CPU cooler.
The issue is, the cooler is listed to arrive on the thirtieth.
While I'm fine with waiting I think that's a bit on the ridiculous side, as it was the first thing I ordered (ordered on the nineteenth)
But, as I'm taking apart my old computer, it hit me. Am I able to use the stock cooler that came with that processor (Intel i7-960) with the new processor, (Intel i5-6600k, didn't come with a cooler) at least until the aftermarket one arrives?
If it is possible to reuse it temporarily, would it be okay to put the processor under duress, games and so on?

Solution
The stock cooler is not meant for a K-version which is why they do not include one. However, if you don't do anynthing heavy, temps should be normal. But if you can wait, I would recommend waiting until that cooler arrives. No telling how stable that other fan is, especially since it is from a i7-970

Of course, patience is key. Thank you for answering, just a bit of a thought I had, seeing the inside of my current build.
I'd rather not risk it, I'll just deal with the excessive shipping time.

I know the feeling. I had ordered parts, and everything came in but the RAM. I went to every local store, but no one had DDR4. so I just sat there and waited and looked at all my parts staring back at me. It was a sad week, but worth it.

I'm having the same issue. The CPU cooler STILL hasn't come in. FedEx Smartpost shipping claims to have passed it off to USPS, and that it's been out for delivery since about eight in the morning. It's now 4:50 pm, well later than any of my mail generally arrives. I'm getting quite anxious about it at this point, along with the urge to use the build.
