Use Windows Hello (fingerprint) without setting a PIN

I don't particularly want to have both a PIN and a password - it seems 100% pointless.

Is there any way to enable Windows Hello's biometric login options without setting a PIN?

The purpose of the PIN is to serve as an alternative input in case the biometric system fails, or you have problems with your finger (god forbid.) There is no way to set up Windows Hello without a PIN.

What does password+PIN+biometrics add over password+biometrics?

Back when the machine came with XP... the HP software on it didn't need any extra PIN beyond the standard windows login password. What's changed since then?

Windows Hello is entirely separate from the HP software. The PIN is not centralized or stored online, and Microsoft claims that PINs are more secure than passwords.

I know that it's separate. I'm not using the HP software; I'm saying that the HP software was perfectly capable of using password only.

I call BS on the 'PIN is more secure'. You forget your PIN, you can reset it using your password. The only reason it's supposed to be more secure is it's harder to re-use because most password policies will reject a four-number password.
