I have a brand new cabinet with a brand new PC (Athlon) in it.

I am playing mainly the old school Aracde games.......... early to late 80s
games.

I am booting up into Windows and then into my preferred front end : Maximus
Arcade.

Question : Should I use Windows Command Line Mame or DOS Mame?

(I assume I cannot use Pentium Pro Mame)

Regards to all Mamers

Don't know it. If this is Windows-only you need another for DOS, or do
without.

If you only play MAME with that PC and find a DOS front end, or have no
problems using the command line of DOS, use DOS since it boots faster.

If you know Linux you might also use this. Though without any service and
other stuff (don't need X if you use the SVGA version) started you can
boot it very fast, DOS boots even faster.

I think you can, but also Athlon optimized versions. I couldn't use my
for a Pentium Pro optimized MAME version after I downgraded to a Pentium
I. But newer CPUs are compatible to any old thingy, like MMX or 3DNow
I'd assume.
