used Balarc key

I use Balarc and entered the key they gave, Windows recognized it as a default key and wouldn't accept it

got key from Belarc after I was asked for it after the update to w8.1 was done and was finishing the install

The upgrade probably changed the key and that would explain why its not the correct key. If this an OEM system the product key should be located on a sticker of the system. If its a retail OS use the key that shipped with the disc.

there was no label on the computer or in any of the paper work I received with the computer from Best Buy there is also no web site at levono to find the key It's supposed to be in the bios and not on the computer a number of the key finders all found the same key only windows 8.1 won't use it

If its a laptop the key maybe under the battery or under a panel on the bottom. On desktops its usually on the side, on the back of all in ones.

there are no battery compartments or any labels on any boxes , books, or the computer

Whaty have you actually done? Did you reinstall Windows 8 and if so, how? Did your existing W8 installation get updated to 8.1 from the Store or direct form the website? When you say Windows "wouldn't accept it", do you mean it fails Activation?

windows 8 was not reinstalled I updated the current windows 8 to windows 8.1 from the store and yes I mean activation

So bignastyid got it right - you should have used Belarc to get the key from the installation before Microsoft messed with it. You need to go through the telephone Activation process to explain what happened and hope they give you a new key to generate a valid PID

There must be somewhere on the Lenovo site to contact them - give them the key and ask if it at least came form the block allocated to them. If it does turn out to be the original, tell Microsoft. How many days do you have remaining to activate?
