I'm looking to purchase a budget gaming pc, mainly a computer that can run CS: GO without any issues. I'm a college student and don't have much to spend. At our school, I there's this computer recyling center that sells a Dell Optiplex 980 (early 2010) for 200$.
Specs that are mentioned:
2.79 GHz
Core i7 Processor
4.00 GB DDR3 RAM
DVDRW
Windows 7 Pro License.

Here's the product. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/optiplex-980/manuals

I was wondering if this is a good buy for a gaming? I have a 8800GTS 320MB from my old rig and was wondering if it would be compatible. I haven't built a computer since 2007 so I really haven't kept up with specs.

If there are any other suggestions for budget gaming desktops, please let me know.

Thanks.

If you are interested in building one from parts, and you already have a legal OS, you might get a budget gamer for that much.
Here's one way to go. Using an AMD APU with built-in graphics that is equal to the R7-250 gfx card.

($356)
Take a look at the parts and pick and choose, or swap out for something you like better. This would make a nice budget gamer at 720p resolutions, and even play at 1080p with reduced settings. But for CS:GO, it will be great. Check this video out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFdQXAZcY_U

I'm pretty sure it's the desktop. Which PSU would you recommend? I don't want any issues with compatibility since it's a dell desktop..

I think I mis-spoke in the above post. I now see that Dell refers to their low profile PC as a "desktop" and the full size PC as a "Mid tower". So let's back up a bit and do this again. Which of these PCs is yours?

Either way, it would be a bit of a waste to spend money on a new PSU just to be able to run an old slow card.

It's the mid tower. So it's not worth getting this desktop. Where would you recommend in buying used pc's? The only reason being used is so that the cost is less while it may still have decent specs. I have a max of 400 budget I'd say. I'm not looking for top of the line everything on super maxed out but a computer that can run things smoothly.

Yeah, that is probably not the best computer to try to turn into a gamer. The design is... odd internally. The 8800 GTS is a 2 slot card. I'm not even sure it would fit due to the way the motherboard is designed. Building one from prats would be better, but by the time you spend $100 on an operating system, that doesn't leave much for the parts.
What part of the world do you live?

Wow this looks great. Thank you so much. Is the built in motherboard graphics is better than my 8800GTS lol? I know it's an old card but I just remembered it ran great when it was first purchased. But then again I was playing CS:S. I also have CD/DVD rom's from before 2007, should I just stick with buying a new one or you think the old one would be fine? (I know I'm being a little cheap, I just really don't have a lot of money to spend)

The built-in graphics for the A10-7850K APU contain a gfx processor about the equivalent of the R7-250 discrete card. So use this hierarchy chart to judge where your old 8800 GTS 320 MB stands in relation to the R7-250: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html
(I count 5 tiers between the 8800 GTS 320 MB and the R7-250 (DDR3))

Too bad you don't live closer. I could build you a nice budget gamer for $400.

The Gpu on the 7850K is decent for CSGO but dont expect over 100 -1220 fps in MM , you may need a bit more than the 512mb it's got.

At what resolution does it get 100 fps?
And why would anyone need to go over 100 fps? Most monitors only refresh the screen 60 times a second.
