Hi guys,

I have a coworker who is offering me his Synology DS710+ (diskless) for $250. It has an intel atom D410 with 1GB of RAM. Only a single NIC. Out of warranty. Its still working well, and i trust he maintained it as well as he could (not much upkeep required for a NAS i would imagine).

The purpose of this would be to backup my VMs via Veeam with shares/drives presented from the NAS, as well as testing iscsi and nfs.

Do you all think the DS710+ is worth $250? or would you recommend something like a DS214+ for $340 that runs on an ARM cpu, but has dual NICs, a warranty and speced at higher transfer speeds?

EDIT: im also open to suggestions to other brands such as netgear and qnap

A DS710+ may not get software updates any more. The Synology policy is 5 years of software updates. I had a DS409 that I retired because of this.
I can't determine if the DS710+ was a dual core or not. If not, then I would go with the DS215+. I am a big fan of multi-core everywhere.
Dual NICs could be useful if you have multiple clients and use link aggregation.

I ended up going with the QNAP TS 251+ .. worked out really well. I highly recommend this model.
