So I'm planning on upgrading my GPU and on craigslist I found a R9 290 for $170 (CAD). Is this a good deal or should I spend my money on a used GTX 970 for $250 (CAD). Also any other recommendation for cards that are relatively cheap used?

170 CAD is about $130 USD, I'd say that's pretty good deal, much better than what I usually see on Craigslist ($115 for a GTX 650?? Are you serious? Lol.) And considering that the R9 290 pretty much matches the GTX 970 on performance, with some exceptions, the 290 is the much better deal. I would see if the seller would go to 150 CAD, but you're not getting ripped off at 170 CAD
