Hello everyone

I found online a second hand intel core i7 2700k cpu for around 170 euros (190 $).My goal is to upgrade my pc for running games (newer and older ones).Keep in mind that i do not wish to run the latest games on maximum settings, but i am aiming on a satisfying gaming experience.

The specific cpu has been used with water cooling for the past years.I do not know if it has been
overclocked or not (in case it has does it matter?).So my question is : is it too risky of a buy or too much for my needs?Should i just buy a brand new i5 (for just a little more of money)?

Thanks in advance (i apologise for any linguistic errors).

Solution
personally i would opt for newer hardware/features. an i5-6500 will give you close, but probably a little less performance to that that i7-2700k. then you have to buy an outdated mobo which will probably be overpriced, unless you get that second hand too. then you have hardware that is closer to failing. you don't know how hard that used i7 was pushed or if a capacitor is near its end on a used mobo.

It should be fine, the 2700k used goes for around $200 in the US. This of course assumes you trust whoever you are buying it from.

That said is this just an in place CPU upgrade or are you building a new system? If its a new system you'd probably be better off bumping up to Haswell.
