[SOLVED] Used motherboard CPU now overclocked?

Hi everyone,

New to the forums because I noticed something that I am not sure of.

I bought a used ASUS ROG ix Maximus Formula off ebay and swapped out my old motherboard.

I cleared CMOS before doing anything. When I was checking the cpu temps, I noticed my i7 7700k is at 4.5 GHz. I havn't done anything to overclock because honestly I've never messed around with overclocking.

Any Ideas?

Thanks!

Try clearing cmos again by using the jumper (if you have it) or leaving the battery out side for like 20 minutes just to be sure.
Look at the core multiplier in the BIOS to see if it is at stock setting.
Also the used motherboard might have a turbo boosts feature enabled. Check to see if this is the case.

4.5ghz is the max turbo speed for that cpu. That's not an overclock, if its not throttling down after its done booting, some of the power states might be disabled. Is the motherboard running the latest bios? (1301?)
