I need a pc for video editing professionally. A friend recommended buying a used workstation, but I don't know how I can compare xeon processors to ryzen or core i. On benchmark tests Xeon processor perform worse, but I'm not sure what criteria is used there.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

No comparison or recommendation can be given without knowing some details.

A 12 year old Xeon is likely crap, vs a new Ryzen.

Thanks for replying! My friend told me that he uses a workstation he got for 550€ off eBay. Video editing is his job. I could spend around 700€ but would rather not. I would send a workstation as an example but I literally have no idea which one is representative of the other workstations in that price range.

Basically, I want to know if I should buy a used workstation or build a new pc for let's say 600-700€; and how can I compare workstations.
I don't need it for gaming, only for video editing and animating.

Basically, it's all speculation without actual parts list.
Used workstation or new PC is not an either/or.

Also, the workload.

2k, 4k?
How much of this do you do?
What is your proposed backup routine?
etc, etc, etc.....
I will come back once I make a list of parts I'd get.
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
