Hi all

I currently have an i5 2400 / 8 Ram / nvidia 430 Gfx. I mostly use my PC for desktop work, and rarely for some video editing (very rarely).

I will be moving countries and thought of buying a workstation, mainly for the ECC ram - since I will be writing my doctoral thesis and thus to have an added layer of protection for the data. Most of my work will be writing the thesis, and once I get the surveys done run some mathematical algorithms on it. Nothing big.

What do you suggest I buy out of these used workstation systems pls:

Option 1 -T3500
2.4 Hexa (E5645)
12 ECC
Quadro 2000
£209 - 3 months warranty

Option 2 -HPZ400
3.07 Quad (W3550)
16 ECC
Quadro 1800
£219 - 1 year warranty

Option 3 -HPZ400
2.4 Hexa (E5645)
12 ECC
Quadro 2000
£214 - 3 months warranty

Option 4 -HPZ400
2.4 Hexa (X5650)
12 ECC
Quadro 2000
£229 - 3 months warranty

Option 5 -HPZ400
3.2 Hexa (W3670)
12 ECC
Quadro 2000
£240 - 3 months warranty

Option 6 -Lenovo D20
DUAL: 2.26 Quad (E5507)
16 ECC
Quadro 2000
£246 - 3 months warranty

Many thanks for your help

You might look into a Dell T5500 with single CPU. It's almost identical to the T3500 but gets you into RDIMM RAM where ECC is the default and new 8GB modules are <$30. Bear in mind that with a 6 core Xeon with HT you have 12 threads, so 24GB of RAM is not too much. You might save enough on RAM to pay for the step up. Also the 2nd CPU riser can be added later if approrpriate.
There is a Dell workstation owners club at TPU, but many members there have Z400 also.

X5687 is a 3.6GHz 4 core 8Thread CPU that's under the radar a little bit.
