User Password cannot be reset. Windows Vista

Have a dell laptop that's been off for a year. Went tot turn on and I have the correct password, but won't let me get in. I have windows vista. When I try to reset password, it asks for me to insert a floppy disk or usb flash drive. hat do i do?
