We're limited to 6mb DSL and despite the fact I hate that its all I can get at my new place.

The DSL is from ATT and it requires a piece of crap modem. It is a Netgear model B90-755025-15 The WAN connection to the internet is up and down and there is nothing I can do about that. but the internal network is up and down all the time and that is what I want to fix.

I also have an ASUS rt-66r that is rock solid and I would like that to control our internal network and wifi, but what is the best solution?

The biggest concern I have is I do not want any double NATing to occur.

Should I put the Netgear in bridged mode?

Should I turn off the wifi on the Netgear and use the Linksys for wifi AP and DHCP?

The correct answer is no. You would need to get your internet provider to either disable the router part of the modem, or REPLACE the combo modem/router with a standard modem. If you try to change the modem settings, your internet provider could cut off your internet.
I would suggest getting the internet provider to replace the combo modem with a standard modem (no router built in).

Why would you think that. The ISP does not maintain the modem they just lease the hardware to you. They expect the customer to do all the configuration. They likely do not even have access to it. In this case it is just a run of the mill dsl router and he just want to use the modem part. A dsl modem without a router is a very rare device actually.

Other than collecting their monthly fee the ISP do not want to be involved in supporting devices in your house

You can get fully manged devices but that is not something offered to residential customer in the first place.
