i bought a hp PC about a year ago and i want to upgrade my C: disk to an SSD.
the pc did not come with an Win 7 CD but it does have a sticker on the side of the case with the product key.

i could use the re-install folder on the pc but i heard re-installing Win 7 on a different disk while having the original C: connected is bad.

Can i just use a friends Win 7 disk to boot up the Win 7 install screen and then use my original product key on the side of the case to activate it?
i have already re-installed Win 7 one time from the re-install folder so i have already entered the key once.

Solution

No it should install windows without the key and give you 30 days to activate it. The key should work again especially if your using the same motherboard.

so i won't get an error saying i have already used the key?

ooh i see, thanks for solving two of my questions at once 😀

quick question: i have a 2TB disk where i save my steam games and video's and pictures on, will this be effected by the re-install of windows?
or will it be deleted / corrupted?
