Using a more powerful power adapter on a set of speakers

So i have a couple sets of gigaware speakers not the best in the world but whatever not the point. I lost the power adapter for one of my sets a while back and i need to use them again for a smash bros tournament.

my question is if the original power adapter has an output of 700mA and i found an adapter that fits the speakers and powers them on but the output is 2000mA will i damage the speakers if i use this or will it be fine they will be in use for around 12 hours straight for one day and then probably go back in the closet till the next time i need them.

it's fine. just make sure the voltage is right and the polarity (+/-) is correct. more current (mA) is ok. less will burn out the power supply.

The short answer is generally yes.

As long as the voltage, polarity, and connector match the device you are plugging it in to, the speakers will draw the current they need. The power supply doesn't always just supply that much current... the device will need a certain voltage to run properly and then pull the amount of current it needs from the supply, the supply is just capable of supplying up to 2000mA.

Hello,

If the power adapter is a SMPS, you can use it without problems (of course, if it has the same output voltage and the same power plug).

If the power adapter employs an old fashion AC transformer (it's bulky and heavy), you risk indeed to damage the output stage (such adapters don't have voltage regulation, so the output voltage will fluctuate according to the load and the AC input).
