is it possible to use a router as a wifi repeater and as an ethernet cable extender? what i'm trying to say is that i want to use a router as a bridge and use the ports in the back to extend a hardwire connection where my ethernet cable isn't long enough to reach

Solution
One router, one switch, wireless access points is a more ideal setup.
Stay away from nesting switches or routers, wireless extenders and powerlines. They are a last resort if you are unwilling to get ethernet put in.

You certainly can, but dont expect good results.

The much much better option is to use a powerline (av1000 or better model) to connect your primary router to this secondary one and convert to an access point.

When you have it as a repater it has to take the mediocore wifi signal it gets form the router and play middle man and thus it splits that bandwidth in half.
Lets say you start out with an N300 mbps connection and real world speed after loss and other factors is 75mbps, well this means your repeater at best can only output at 37.5mbps, probably more like 25mbps real world.
As an access point you wont experience this and you should be able to keep speeds throughout home at 75-100 mbps.

This very much depends on your home electricity. In modern households, the "electric circles" are divided, and that can reduce powerline-throughput considerably.
In other words: There is no silver bullet, one can but try out...

True but the new generation AV2 adapters do much better at being able to cross phases (at least in a 2 phase system, 3 phase is still a no-go), this new generation can also use the ground wire.
You will certainly never get the max 1000mbps, but even on an circuit on the other phase, should be able to get 400-500 mbps throughput between router and access point which is going to be far better than you are with a wireless repeater. Not to mention the improved ping/latency it will have.
