Using a separate partition for backup during Windows Install

Hello everyone,
I want to upgrade a computer to Windows 10, but it contains over 100GB of wav audio files that I don't have the capability to copy somewhere else at the moment. Would it be possible/safe to make a new partition on the same hard drive and copy it all over to it, then perform a clean install on the old partition before copying them back over and deleting the new partition?

Yes but...
Any time you mess with partitions, you should really have a backup in another location, just in case.
Which nullifies your need to do this.

But yes, that will work.
