Hi all

I have a Toshiba Stor.e Canvio 2tb (usb 3.0 & 2.0) mains powered external hard disk which was connected to and formatted for the wii u.

The wii u has now gone and I want to connect to xbox one, however the xbox one will not recognise it.

I have tried connecting it to my laptop to reformat, it sees it in the usb device list but won't allow me to access it in the computer window.

Does anyone know how I can get my laptop/xbox one to recognise it?

Thanks

Hey menacedude. Have you tried to do that vie Disk Management? If it is recognized there, check out this link which will show you how format the drive: How to partition and format a drive on Windows (8, 7, Vista, XP) and Mac OSX just click on the corresponding OS and follow the instructions.
Also I'd suggest that you download the manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test the drive with it.

Hope that helps.

Does the BIOS detect the drive and if "yes", does it show up in Device Manager at least? Also, try the drive with another computer to see if the same thing happens or with a different USB cable or USB port. You could try formatting the drive via CMD (Command Prompt) if it is listed there. Here's a link with instructions on how to do that: http://www.wikihow.com/Format-FAT32
Just remember to write NTFS instead of FAT32 and please make sure that you choose the correct letter so that you don't format one of your other drives.
Other than that you could try accessing the drive with Linux LiveCD and format it.
Good luck.

Hey. I know it's a bit late and that your problem is likely already solved, but I came across this page from a Google search, so I thought I'd answer just in case someone else does, too.

Assuming you're running Windows Vista or higher, these steps should work.

1. Type cmd.exe in the search bar from the start menu and right click on the first result and select "Run as administrator" (or "Command Prompt (Admin)" on Windows 8)

2. Type "diskpart" and hit enter. For steps like this, don't type the quotation marks.

3. Then type "list disk".

4. You will then get a list of all disks on your PC, each with a disk number to the left. Find the appropriate one and type "select disk x". Replace X with the disk number.

5. Type "clean" and hit enter. THIS WILL WIPE ALL DATA OFF OF YOUR HARD DRIVE.

6. Once the drive is cleaned, type "create partition primary" and hit enter.

7. Type "format quick fs=ntfs" and hit enter. This will format the drive to the NTFS file system that is readable by windows. Formatting may take some time.

8. Type "assign" and hit enter.

9. Exit the command prompt and you're done!

This may look like a lot of steps, but all you have to do is type a few words in. Once you're done all these steps, set up the hard drive for use with Xbox One like you normally would. There are tutorials that show how to do that.

I hope this helped someone! :)
