I'm trying to host a LAN event, I want to connect all the laptops to Ethernet. However many of them don't have Ethernet ports so I will have to use an Ethernet-USB adapter. Getting an adapter for all the computers would be expensive though. I was wondering if I could use a USB switch or splitter cable to convert one Ethernet cable into multiple male USB cables so I will only need to buy one adapter.
If this is possible, would it affect performance?

Solution
Nope, doesn't work that way. You need an ethernet adapter on each station. You may then use standard ethernet switches and patch cables to connect everything to a single network.
