Hi. I currently own a r9 380 and I'm looking forward to buy a monitor in the near future (disregard the sig as I will also buy the rest of the components) which is G-Sync (as I am looking forward in getting a 1070 in the late future also) so I just want to ask how will this affect in terms of display/or anything it may affect negatively. I'm looking to get a 1080p or 2590x1440 if it fits my budget. Thanks!

''Dead wrong. Adaptive sync is absolutely fantastic and not only about eliminating tearing. More importantly, It eliminates stutter. ''

guess that's why you still see all the threads on that ?? it works so well .. lol.. [glorified v-sync ]

hmmmm.... looks like you cant mix and match ? so now its also proprietary ??

''Can I mix and match this stuff? Is the card in my PC compatible?''

i'll stick with something that works with any card I use for the money you spend on that gsync monitor and then cant or don't go with a NVidia card ?? see where I'm going ?
''While Nvidia was first to come up with the idea of the GPU controlling the monitor's refresh rate, AMD has struck back hard by coming up with its own solution, called FreeSync. ''

best you can do is read up and base your own conclusion on what you feel is best or any of it is worth the effort or use ?

Thanks for the quick reply people! I still am confuse tho as I do not know how G-Sync/FreeSync affects the display still if the monitor itself (for example) has say 144hz and 1 ms specs. And yes, I am going to get a 1070 later so I plan to get a monitor first for my established conclusion: What's the use of having a 1070 if I'm stuck with a 720p monitor.

Thanks junkeymonkey for the links! I'll be using those and read although I've read my share regarding the topic in the past.

Definitely no issues whatsoever. Congrats on thinking forward about your purchase.
That being said, depending on when you intend to purchase the GPU, i would postpone buying the monitor until i get that aswell. What if, by the time you have the money for the GPU, AMD puts out Vega and it's competitive or even better than Nvidia's latest get and you realise you've lost on both ends: you can;t get a better AMD GPU and enjoy adaptive sync and you have also payed 150 to 200 extra for a G-Sync monitor vs it's FreeSync equivalent?

to me it looks like just a glorified v-sync hyped up for marketing

then look and see how many of your games are capped to 60 fps anyway that you play now ? if your game has a fps cap on it to say 60 where does all this matter ?

its not like I run in to the settings and turn on v sync if I can run faster then the refresh rates ?? normally leave it off

maybe I;m wrong in looking at it that way but ???....

Great way of seeing it! And reading this, I remember the time when I purchased the card I use now (r9 380) then 2 weeks after AMD releases 480 which has almost the same price and 2x the power of the card I'm saying so yeah, I had to learn it the hard way and felt really bad making such hasty decisions and not making enough research before buying card.

I'm planning to buy the monitor/card 4 months from now shortly after new year and maybe that would be the deciding time when I would go for a monitor/video card depending on the news regarding AMD's release which hasn't surfaced at present and would go for the best case scenario. And after that, maybe saving up another 6 months to buy the remaining part which I already assume to be the video card so in the long run, prices would go down at the same time maybe more options should arise.

The real question stands still as to which monitor would be best based on my situation - GSync or FreeSync.
