Using an external hard drive for gaming.

I have an older computer 1ghz with a radian 6920 (something like that) I am able to play games off of an external hardrive (Usb 2.0) like StarCraft 2 with all my settings on medium (25- 30 FPS) Trying to figure out how my computer was able to do this? Am I bypassing something?

All you're doing (to my understanding) is playing the game off of the external hard drive. There's nothing wrong with that.
