Hi
I have a Seagate 6TB External HDD that i want to take out of the box(Enclosure) and use inside my pc(an internal HDD connected by via sata)

Should I do this or will it damage my HDD or cause it to die prematurely.

The reason for me wanting to put it inside the PC is because I want to use this Hdd to store my games. I have about 3.5tbs worth of games distributed between my 4tb internal hdd and 500 gb SSD. So by now they're both quite full and having all my games in one place would be nice.

If the external HDD's warranty has expired, sure you can go ahead and connect the HDD to a desktop but if the external drive has warranty on it, tampering with the enclosure/body will result in you voiding your warranty.
Yah, the warranty is long gone, I just don't want my drive to get fried or damaged. Is there any risk of that?

There shouldn't be any kind of risk of that kind of thing as long as it isn't powered on when you're tearing it down. However, I don't know how you rank in terms of technical aptitude. There's always that one person that proves me wrong.

thanks for the advice. i am fairly good at technical work, I just didnt know if it would damage the drive in the long term.

I did it and it's working perfect
