I have a Transcend 1TB HDD, the green black one, etc. It was formatted, set up whatever, on a Windows 10 laptop. I was told I could easily view some of my files and use it as an external hdd without issue on my Chromebook; yet each time I attach it via USB, it says, 'Sorry your external storage device could not be recognized.' Then below that it gives you the option to Format this device. 1. is it not recognized because the Transcend Storejet isn't compatible with CHROME OS? and/or 2. I only want to view the files on the Transcend via the chromebook, suggestions? Thanks

Update. Just tried it again for the heck of it and now this came up, which was a first, "Sorry, at least 1 partition on your device could not be mounted.'

Hey there, Raid0-phd.

Have you ever had issues with the drive before? It sounds like there might be a problem with its partitions and/or the files system, or the drive itself. If you have access to a Windows computer and if the drive is properly recognized, I'd recommend that you backup your data, just to be on the safe side. After that you should try it out with a different USB cable, to see if the same thing happens with your chromebook. You could also test it with the Windows computer by using its manufacturer's diagnostic tool (or a 3rd party HDD diagnostic tool if the manufacturer doesn't offer one), to see if anything alarming pops-up.
If everything seems to be OK, try reformatting it via your chromebook with the NTFS file system...

If everything seems to be OK, try reformatting it via your chromebook with the NTFS file system again and then transfer the backed up data back to it if it's properly recognized by both computers.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
